catching up
Apr. 2nd, 2020 02:35 pmWhat with the forced isolation, between online classes and online work, my roommate and I are watching tons and tons of tv. I’ve tried reading to but I can’t focus for long enough at the moment, which sucks -so there it is Carmilla’s novella, likely the shortest among my favorite stories, waiting for me to finish my re-read xD.
Usually tv shows are what I’m unable to properly get into: I can’t follow week-by-week episodes unless I’m really into it, and I don’t have as much time to binge-watch as I used to; and when I do, I don’t feel capable of investing in new characters and usually just end up re-watching old faves. Or at best, watching adaptations/spin offs, where I’m at least partially invested (i.e. I started The Vampire Diaries because I was already in love with Legacies; I watched the Harley Quinn animated show because, well).
On that vein, we finally got around watching the fourth, and likely last, season of Veronica Mars.
We also watched Watchmen, yet another story I’m familiar with xD. I thought Angela was a superb protagonist, and I enjoyed all the ingenious storytelling devices they used during the season. My other favorites were Lady Trieu, Will, Wade, and of course, good ol’ Laurie; I really liked what they did with her here. I liked Cal, too -his matter-of-fact speech to the kids about how there’s no afterlife and death is final endeared me to the guy xD
We even watched a completely new thing! She’s wanted to watch Prodigal Son for a while; I’m not one for procedurals but this one sounded interesting enough, so I indulged her. The procedural part is alright enough, but I’m mostly interested in the Whitly family’s drama. My favorites are Jessica and Martin, both of whom are a DELIGHT, but I love Ainsley and Malcolm too. There was a post on tumblr recently about how great it is that the romances the show focuses on most are all about Jessica, the mother character/middle aged woman, and I can’t agree more. And
Next show in line is probably Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Which I guess technically counts as a procedural, but one a lot prettier and more stylish than the average, at least xD (procedurals are usually so drab…). I have high hopes for this one, so I hope I like it ^^
