weekend wrap up
Jan. 19th, 2020 09:23 pmI don’t know what it says about me that I often turn to re-watches and rereads instead of getting into new things (is it the comfort of the old favorites? Is it because investing in new characters is difficult for me? Idk), but it is what it is LOL.
This weekend I ended up re-watching a couple of films. The first was Rear Window, one of my favorite Hitchcock films. I’m confident I could stare at Grace Kelly for entire days. I love how it’s all filmed, from Jeff’s room, from his cameras, his view, etc. (like that perfect first shot of Lisa when he wakes up with her looking over him, ethereal and mesmerizing -that might just be mine and Jeff’s biases). The lack of a “proper” score works really well for this one too, makes it feel true-to-life in a way I’ve always liked.
The other one was 1978’s Superman; there was a gifset of Superman II going around tumblr and I went all nostalgic I guess :P. Sometimes I feel I forget about Clark because I end up paying a lot more attention to the other Trinity members and their lore LOL. The film itself has aged a bit unevenly, to put it bluntly, but I love Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder’s chemistry, as Clark/Lois and as Superman/Lois; their relationship is overtly sexual in every version worth watching, like here, and it’s one of the best examples of how much you can do with the secret identity trope if you put your heart to it. And it does a good job of showcasing how central Lois is to the Superman lore.
I did watch something new in the weekend too, the latest The Good Place episode. I don’t know what I’ll do when the show is over, I haven’t managed to follow a new show from beginning to end since… idek. So far Legacies is looking like it could be headed that way too, at least. Anyway, under a read more for spoilers.
