I started watching Avenue 5 (only four episodes out so far), the new Hugh Laurie show. It's a sci-fi comedy, set sometime in the future. The Avenue 5, a private tourist ship, malfunctions and gets off course, and it's estimated it'll take three years, instead of the intended eight weeks, for it to return to Earth.
Hugh Laurie plays Ryan Clark, the captain, and he's trying to maintain the order in the ship. The problem is that he's a fraud (he's not even American!). The real captain, Joe, hired him because he lacked social skills and wanted Ryan to be the one to deal with the public. But Joe died during the malfunction, so now they're all screwed.
I found the cast hilarious; among my favorites are Iris, an associate owner of the ship and cold badass; Billie, the best engineer on the ship; Karen, a passanger (and CLASSIC let-me-speak-to-your-manager lady LOL); and Rav, head of mission control and Very Stressed Woman.
Ryan is a pretty good lead too, he's really charming even when you know he's full of shit. And I want to see more about his marriage (he's in a poly relationship with his husband and wife, who are waiting for him back on Earth). I love the weird worldbuilding details it throws out, like saying Billy McFarland (Fyre Festival guy) is now the head of the FBI xD
If it sounds like something you'd like, I think watching the pilot it's enough to see if it's your thing.
