FINALLY CAUGHT UP ON COMICS (and a meme)
Mar. 14th, 2020 10:59 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
-Daphne Byrne #3: this one remains delightfully creepy and using every gothic horror trope in the book (now a cult is trying to Rosemary’s Baby Daphne’s mom, Daphne almost kissed the spirit following her around…). I want to know more about the powers the creatures following give Daphne.
-Mirka Andolfo’s Mercy #1: more classic Victorian horror! A town with mysterious murders, a deceptively beautiful woman arriving in a carriage Carmilla-style, a Madame of a brothel with nightmares about monsters… and the art is beautiful. So yeah, I’ll continue this one, and try to catch up with other Image comics as well.
-2020 Rescue #1: Pepper and Bethany plan to make YET ANOTHER Tony body by… using his biological parents DNA…? Makes as much sense as the rest of this plot (like how Tony’s regenerated body is artificial but Rhodey isn’t. Okay). Amanda ends up agreeing. In the meantime, Hydra attacks them because it wants to keep Tony dead. At some point Pepper says in response to Amanda’s “even if you bring him back he won’t be the same” that none of us are ever the same, which at least seems more in line with a comic universe where the entire world had to be re-written and resurrected that one time.
-Iron Man 2020 #3: so now supposedly not-real AI Tony is dead too. Okay. Arno is as extremely annoying as ever (“I’m a real Stark”, “I’m the smart one”. Shut up). The writing is shallow and I’m not getting anything out of this except saving myself from having to catch up later. Still. I’m so tired of IM runs where Tony is dead, or in a comma, or “not the real Tony”. I should read one of my favorite old runs to clean the palate.
-Wonder Woman #753: Valda and Diana fight against the monster that followed Valda through time; Diana showed her competitive side there (she and Valda kept a tally of how many civilians they saved) and I loved it. Meanwhile Warmaster keeps recruiting allies against Wonder Woman. This time Armageddon, because her father experimented on her so that she would be strong enough to defeat Diana; the other one she had so far was devastation, raised “in hate” to be “the opposite of Wonder Woman”; so, you know, they hate her. This is prime shipping fuel AFAIC.
-Decorum #1: another Image comic. Hickman wrote this one, which pretty much guarantees it’s going to be interesting. It’s sci-fi, space opera/cyberpunk style, and it apparently follows the story of a very polite lady assassin; there’s also a young courier girl who gets involved in her dealings, and a mention to a super powerful pseudo religious artificial intelligence, which I dig. And the art is lovely and really unique.
-Avengers #32: someone in Marvel has been reading kidfic and now the Avengers must take care of a baby. Here’s the thing: I don’t like kidfic. So yeah, not interested. Meanwhile various antagonists are thinking of uniting against the Avengers, under Mephistos influence (Dracula, the Winter Guard, Namor…). Oh, and there’s a tasteless joke about how Tony could be the baby’s father, because of course there is. I seriously hate this run’s Tony characterization. The one good thing is that it seems intent on ignoring the Iron Man run itself so there’s no Tony angsting about his supposed lack of soul/being an artificial intelligence etc. OTOH if THIS run tackled that maybe we’d get some comments about how if that’s true, Carol killed Tony? But given how their relationship’s been written so far (Tony hits on her out of the blood despite them dating Rhodey and Jan respectively and apparently he’s the one supposed to apologize for CWII. And she punches him), maybe it’s for the best.
-JJ: Blind Spot #5: the plot with Dia and Jared is resolved (Dia takes away evil!Jared’s powers and good!Jared re-absorbs evil!Jared. Hooray). There’s still one issue left I think? IDEK. The important thing is that Luke and Jessica plan to use the old Ms. Marvel swimsuit outfit that Jared made Jessica wear for foreplay. Good for them (I kind of want to write that fic now).
-Nebula #2: an amnesiac Nebula recovers on a planet under the care of a nice alien girl. She’s trying to remember who she was, but the contact that could get her out is Ballista, a former killer for Thanos; she recognigzes Nebula and they start fighting, to be continued in the next issue.
And a meme I borrowed from @used_songs: Name a TV show you like, starting with each letter of the alphabet.
A- Addams Family, The (1960)
B- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
C- Charmed
D- Dollhouse
E- I’ve struggled with this one and I can only remember those that are in my “shows to watch” list LOL: Emerald City, Empire, Euphoria, The Exorcist, The Expanse
F- From Dusk Till Dawn
G- Gargoyles (it pains me to choose between this, Galavant, Game of Thrones, and Golden Girls. JSYK)
H- House M.D.
I- Iron Man: Armored Adventures
J- Justice League (I tried to think of another one as to not put two DC shows -Young Justice DESERVES a mention for s1 alone-, but couldn't come up with anything)
K- Like above, I could only come up with those I want to watch but haven’t: Killing Eve, Killjoys, Kings, Krypton. Okay, and Kim Possible. I didn’t watch it consistently but Kim/Shego was a very important part of my childhood xDD
L- Legacies
M- Misfits (never finished but for the most part I loved s1-2 SO MUCH)
N- Nikita
O- Orange is the New Black (which I should finish, one of these days…)
P- Phineas & Ferb (it was so goddamn weird. There’s new content since the last time I saw it and my brain can’t process that LOL).
Q- Couldn’t come up with one either. I’ve always wanted to try Quantum Leap?
R- Reign
S- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
T- Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles
U- Uhh… I want to watch The Umbrella Academy at some point. I’m 95% sure I’m gonna like it.
V- Vampire Diaries, The ETA: how could I forget Veronica Mars!! I adore that show. I haven't watched the latest season yet (I'm spoiled about the main things, but given the things I love about the show, I gather my opinion is going to differ from that of the majority). Sorry TVD, I've liked your 1st season a lot and I'm really into your canon, but I don't know you enough yet to put you above VMars xD
W- Wonder Woman
X- Xena: Warrior Princess
Y- Young Justice
Z- A friend insists I should watch Z Nation and to be fair it looks more appealing than most zombie content…
