AKA, recommending my favorite communities, fest and challenges + setting some goals for the upcoming year. I decided to do it this way because my short-term fandom goals align with those challenges.

FANDOM GOALS

On tumblr I stumbled upon the Psychic Wolves for Lupercalia Mini-Fest (February 13th-15th). It’s inspired by a fantasy book I’d never heard about, where certain people are bonded to psychic wolves -who communicate their emotions with them, and even give them sympathetic lust. That’s basically all I know about it, and I won’t be reading the source to get more information, tbh. I just thought the idea sounded up my alley.

I have a couple of ideas, both femslash, of course. Partially because I’m me and that’s what I would’ve likely written anyway; however, hearing that in the source material only men had wolves immediately made me feel petty about it.

Another challenge I want to complete is seasonofkink’s Holiday Season (ending on February 14th). There, you choose three or more kinks from a list (you can ask them to choose for you, or use an RNG like I did), and create a fanwork with them. My idea is shaping up to be a lot like the trashy romance novels I wasted years pretending I don’t read lol.

I’ve signed up for the MCU Kink Bingo, though realistically there’s no way I complete the whole card. The round ends in April, and I don’t think I have 25 ships in the entire canon lol (I don’t like any of them enough to create more than one, maybe two fics). It’s basically “Tony + any character I actually like” (if the challenge included comics, I could make an entire bingo with Tony ships, but alas), Gamora/Nebula, and Carol/Yon Rogg. I haven’t caught up with the shows in years, but maybe some Mattelektra or AoS femslash ships involving Skye/Daisy and villains. And apparently Venom and Deadpool are options, so at least there’s that. Even then, that’s just three months and a half, and I’d like to write other non-Marvel fics in the meantime too. So my goal is to have fun with as many prompts as I can fill, and maybe reserve the rest for the next round if I feel up to it.

There’s a Brujay Week on tumblr (February 23rd-29th). I’d love to post fics for all seven days, because the prompts all spark my imagination (now THIS is a relationship that can inspire multiple fics out of me. I envy those that have huge ships armadas and never stop making content about it. I mostly imprint on one or two characters and that’s if I’m lucky xD). But that’s… a lot of fics in a short period. My goal will have to be “finish those you can, and continue those who don’t because you actually like these ideas, Res”.

Aaaaand that’s it for my short-term fandom goals, so far. There’s a few communities here on dreamwidth I plan to keep an eye on to see if there’s something that catches my eye (creativechallenges, femslash_kink, smallfandomfics…).

PERSONAL & OTHER

In terms of IRL goals, my plan is simply to continue with what I started last year, where things went actually pretty well for me: pass my classes, keep getting jobs on the weekends & holidays that allow me to save money and miss family gatherings, and maintain my sobriety (six months and going now).

On a more up-beat note, I’d like to read new books that aren’t class related. Last year I didn’t finish any new fiction books, just reread some old favorites (not that I don’t plan to do that too this year, I love rereads. Next in line is Dracula, because I want to follow @singedsun recommendation and watch the 2013 short-lived wacky adaptation with sapphic Katie McGrath).

I guess this is an official request for recs, then. Only books, though; I already have four new shows I started in 2019 (Hazbin Hotel, His Dark Materials, Legacies and Rick & Morty), and I’ve managed to keep up with the latest season of The Good Place too. That’s a lot for me xDD, even if one of them is finished for now, and another only has a pilot out for the time being (if I add more new shows, I’ll never finish my re-watch of Star Trek, and I’m sure there’s still episode I haven’t watched yet). And I have an easier time watching new films, even if I also re-watch old ones often (this weekend I watched Ready or Not. A post about it will likely come soon), but if there’s one you’ve loved lately you think I simply MUST watch, go ahead.

I’ve already added some of those trashy romance novels to the to-read pile, along with a few femslash recs from this post. Other than that, my taste go towards horror (especially gothic themes), historical fiction over contemporary, sci-fi and fantasy over realism, wlw romances, and female protagonists. And no YA; I’ve loved some, but generally speaking I can’t stand most of it. And hey, if any of you write original fiction and it fits with my tastes, feel free to pass a link, I’d love to read it ^^

Hi! I wandered in from [community profile] snowflake_challenge you've got some good fannish goals and I wish you luck with them!

I've struggled with reading new books, I'm a dedicated re-reader. The Goodreads challenge helped motivate me to keep reading through the year. I have one book I'd like to offer which is almost what you asked for Dread Nation. It's historical, sff, vaguely gothic, with interesting and conflicted female characters, but it is technically YA. It's an alternate reality about what would happen if zombies arose and attacked during the USA Civil War and how that would change things. The second book in the series is coming out in early Feb, and I'm excited to get my paws on it.

As I remember the zombies aren't on the page that much. It's more about the people and the status quo changing. I hope you enjoy it! It took me a little bit to warm up to the narrator, but I loved her by the end.

(I just made the icons for a different challenge, and I couldn't resist when I saw your icon!)

hell yes to Dracula! :D

Have you read Gideon the Ninth? HIGHLY recommend -- it's like gothic fantasy but in space, with female knights and necromancers and a mystery in a gothic space castle.
