I haven't seen the film yet either. It get the impression it was very fanservice-y so can see why it was well liked.
Wallace barely gets anything to do -at least with Mac there's the excuse about the actress not appearing at all-, and Weevil's plot is disheartening, to say the least
I've always thought that the show has struggled with decent plots for some of the supporting characters so I'm not surprised that that hasn't changed.
