snowflake challenges #10 and #11

AKA talk about someone who inspired you and recommend a fannish or creative resource.

For some reason, number 10 is the hardest one yet. You know that thing, where someone asks you a very specific question about your interests and suddenly you forget everything you’ve ever liked and every one of your opinions? It’s a little bit like that, at least for me LOL.

It’s not like I haven’t been inspired by people in fandom (though I’m admittedly terrible when it comes to following authors, and just jump through fandom to fandom without consistency), or original creators like Mary Shelley, Hitchcock, Emma Orzcy or William Marston, or other personalities like Nina Simone, Amelia Earheart or Lucille Ball. But for some reason my mind won’t cooperate when it comes to raving about them at length right now xD

I’ll say when it comes to inspiration to my own writing, what works best for me is visuals: paintings, fanart, aesthetic posts, etc. It’s basically the main reason I have tumblr, where I get a lot of ideas from my art, fanart and inspo tags. Fanartist are the best thing to happen to my creativity, NGL.

As for fannish and creative resources:

  • There are tons of blogs in tumblr that offer solid writing advice and links to resources. Some of my favorites are scriptshrink (with a lot of information about writing about mental illnesses), ao3commentoftheday (lots of good fandom advice and debates), monsterkinkmeme (prompts for monster lovers), or clevergirlhelps, for just about anything. Writeroftheprompts offers both prompts and advice, and has a handy masterlist here.
  • This site has space terminology provided by NASA for your sci-fi writing needs.
  • Writingexercises is one of my favorite ones. It’ll generate prompts, character traits, titles… Great for writer’s block, in my experience.
  • Bad Things Happen Bingo opens for new cards again on February 3rd and it's a pretty chill event, without deadlines, perfect if you're into heavy angst, whump, darkfic in general, etc.
