“It’s hard for me to show kindness to people that hate me. I’m not that evolved.”
These are Marvel’s comics from two weeks ago, because I’ve gotten stuck in my self-imposed selection/catch up process LOL. Once I’ve examined them all and decided which ones to toss it’d be easier (so far only five runs of each DC and Marvel have made the cut, and that’s manageable. I only need to check out a few more titles. There are some other runs I’d like to check from the beginning and then catch up, but there’s no rush).
-Iron Man 2020 #2: I get the feeling this story thinks it’s telling something interesting or new or significant about artificial intelligence. It’s really, really not; Jocasta’s and even the Starks’ storylines could’ve been made into something interesting, in other hands. Instead, t’s one of the shallowest comics I’ve gotten my hands on. And the art is so inconsistent. At least Tony’s not drinking, he has an heroic role, and his true friends are shown worrying about him; that’s my low bar, yeah.
-Jessica Jones – Blind Spot #3: Jessica teams up with Elsa Bloodstone and they kill a bunch of sea monsters (with an axe!), and then Jessica continues to investigate the mystery killings. It’s still an entertaining read with pretty drawings.
-Marvel’s Spider-Man – The Black Cat Strikes #2: Peter keeps chasing Felicia across town trying to get her to accept his help with her son’s kidnapping (possible their son). The story is paired with flashbacks from their past relationship, with them teaming up and Peter letting her see his face. It was… okay. But unless I hear something interesting, I’m done with the run. It’s nothing new or exciting.
-Nebula #1: I really wish Marvel comics put more effort in separating themselves from the MCU; did she really had to be drawn exactly as in the films? Whatever. Okay, so Nebula wants to install a predictive software on her interface to give her an edge, and threatens and kills a bunch of people to get it. I was ready to ignore this run up until the last panel, when it’s revealed that after getting it installed and crashing her ship during her scape, she now has amnesia. Damn my love for this trope.
-X-Men #6: I’ve probably chosen the worst time possible to try to get back into X-Men comics, since there’s like a gazillion different interconnected runs. Oh well. The art is beautiful, Mystique explicitly called Irene HER WIFE, and now she’s going to stir some trouble because Xavier refuses to bring her back (along with any mutant with precognition powers, which sounds very fishy of him). I’ll see if I can go back to the beginning of the Krakoa arc and catch up with other runs, or at least the ones with characters I liked.
And I watched a few more episodes from The Vampire Diaries. I worked my ass last weekend to free myself from all the deadlines this week and the next one, and Legacies is in hiatus for a couple more weeks, so I gave myself the indulgence :P. I’m pretty sure I’ll finish s1 this week. I think I won’t jump straight to s2 -I’ve found a meme and I want to write more elaborated metas based on it, and I think I’ll watch something shorter in the meantime, or try to read a new book (or re-read and old one. I’m a creature of habits). Then season two.
-I really can’t wait for Caroline’s relationship with Matt to be over. I know he’s ultimately irrelevant, but fuck if the focus he’s getting now doesn’t annoy me. That whole double date with them and Stelena made me feel terrible for her too. It gave an interesting scene with Elena and Caroline, at least -Elena is usually better at trying to appease people but it just ANNOYS her that Caroline reacts “inconveniently”, and she can’t quite leverage the situation.
-Hearing Elena’s mother (the Gilbert one) was besties with Kelly Donovan made me have a very low opinion of her LOL. BTW, though Matt’s situation with her and with their finances it’s a bad one, I have to admit I only feel a baseline “yeah, that sucks”, because his supposedly shitty house is a lot bigger than mine atm xDD. And I side-eye how he handles the animosity that his mother shows towards Caroline; he basically ignores it and then tells CAROLINE she has to try harder to be nice, when she’s perfectly pleasant (and certainly a lot more than I’d be).
-Caroline: “I feel like I’ve been [in the Salvatore house] before. Weird.” *Elena and Stefan share awkward looks*. I think I’m way too smug about the fact that the house will eventually be hers :P
-Jeremy’s storyline is getting fun. I liked his scenes with Anna a lot (especially the one where he tempts her to drink his blood. I love bloodletting scenes -the one between Elena and Stefan was another fave one). And now he’s read Elena’s diary and knows everything, including the fact that she had his memories erased. I like that he didn’t confront her immediately, too.
I don’t know if something big will come out of it (Jeremy doesn’t have a lot of leverage within the narrative), but if one character is actually going to react to the bs between Elena & the brothers and Vicki (and Elena’s general “I lie to them and keep them in the dark to protect them” bs; I love you gurl, but it’s bs -and you know it because you had no problem calling Jenna out on it when it concerned you :P), it’s clearly not gonna be her brother, even if he found out. Matt is clearly the type of guy that only punches down ¬¬.
OTOH it wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of the leads’ wrongdoings got conveniently obscured from the pertinent people (for example, as delightful as I find Damon’s friendship with Liz -I loved when she started gossiping with him in the Council and her reaction to him sort-of hitting on her-, it’s not the kind of thing you could sustain if she found out he raped Caroline).
-I want to see more of the Lockwoods (and more of the Council too. Let’s hope Uncle John stirs things up over there). I laughed at the scene between them and Pearl and Anna, and Tyler’s snark to his father (“be more creepy”, “you can tell all that by looking at her ass?”, all while they overheard them xD). And I support Tyler beating Matt. You do you hon.
-So it looks like I will get an addict vampire storyline, just not with Vicki (who I related to more, but who had her days numbered while Stefan is here for the long run. Tit for tat). For the first time since the show began I’m really feeling for him. The shame in his face when Damon found him ripping off blood bags, how cagey he is about it, Damon’s negative influence… I want to see more of this.
-John sending Isobel to Damon instead of Katherine makes sense. I was puzzled by Damon’s deduction because if Isobel had met Katherine, she could’ve turned her herself? Damon’s clearly not the brains of the operation xD. And I’m guessing John is Elena’s bio-dad, so she is a Gilbert.
-Apparently rain (or bad enough weather?) can help ring-less vampires walk around during the day. At least if they cover a little? Interesting.
-I kind of wanted to slap Damon for going through Elena’s underwear drawer ¬¬. You be more creepy, ugh.

lmao you're not wrong. (How many times can I agree that this guy is the worst?)
The start of the Stefan addict storyline! Yeah, that's a good one. Agree that Jeremy/Anna is cute and Damon's friendship with Liz is delightful.
What do you think of Uncle John? He sort of lurks around the edges to begin with, but I think he has some interesting motivations.

And yeah, Matt is the worst. Like, maybe not objectively, not in this town xD. But he's the one I direct all my contempt towards ¬¬. Damon at least has the redeeming quality of holding interesting dynamics with other characters (and sometimes he's fun to watch too).

Yeah, and he's enjoying messing with them too, in his own way.
Matt barely gets out a single line to Caroline that isn't undermining her in some way so he deserves all the contempt as far as I'm concerned. /shrug

Matt is terrible to her. Even his "compliments" and reassurances are so drenched in condescendence and bad faith assumptions about her person they make her feel awful anyway.
And the way he buddied-up with Stefan makes me side-eye him even more. It's one of the things I was thinking of when I said he seems the type to punch down -he's deferential to Stefan and Elena, but sees Caroline as "below" him and doesn't see any issue with undermining her. The part where he can get away with it, just like with Vicki (where people pitied HIM; kind of like the "oh poor Matt having to deal with neurotic Caroline" attitude) probably helps ¬¬
