‘Ms. Marvel’ Star Iman Vellani Makes Solo Comics Writing Debut With ‘Chachu’

Iman Vellani, known for playing Kamala Khan in “Ms. Marvel,” will make her solo comics writing debut with “Chachu,” a five-issue neo-noir miniseries illustrated by Marianna Ignazzi and colored by Jordie Bellaire, set for release from Image Comics and Tiny Onion on Aug. 5.
Set in 1979, the series follows Leila, a 19-year-old Pakistani-Canadian young woman with a love of film and pulp novels who travels to California to reconnect with her estranged uncle – a semi-retired private eye once celebrated for having married the starlet he was originally hired to find. When that same wife vanishes again, uncle and niece find themselves on an unplanned road-trip investigation, one that pushes Leila’s first taste of adulthood into a reckoning with family secrets and the myths both have built around their lives.

BBC Sherlock part 2
May. 20th, 2026 09:47 pmkingstokenAlrighty, I finished season 2 of BBC's Sherlock and I'm still really enjoying it. I have some mixed feelings about the Irene Alder episode, I wasn't really a fan of the ending. I do love that she used Sherlock to get to Mycroft, but I didn't love the villain woman undid by love for a man thing. Also, her damsel-in-distress ending was disappointing, like no way, Irene is no one's damsel, Anyways, those issues aside, it was a fun ride.
The Hound episode was fun, it didn't go where I expected it, and it felt like a fun little interlude between the two juggernaut episodes.
Now, Reichenbach, the fans must have gone feral for this back in 2012. Moriarty was very good in this. I love his level of machinations.
Funny thing, if you haven't watched the Rathbone films you might not see it, but there were a couple of references to those films: Moriarty trying to steal the crown jewels, him going to Baker St and stepping on the squeaky stair as Sherlock plays the violin, they're definite nods, and I only got them because I watched the Rathbone films recently.
The conversation between Sherlock and John at the end, and the graveside visit, was heartbreaking, poor John. To know you're on the phone with someone and to think you're watching them take their own life, that would screw him up way more than he already was.
I really wish there had been a scene between Sherlock and Mycroft in this episode, I really do. It really felt like it was missing in this episode, and god, John never told Sherlock that Mycroft said he was sorry! Sad sigh.
Anyways, I think I'll take a bit of break before starting season 3, and yes I have been warned repeatedly that season 3 is not good and season 4 sucks, so I am prepared for that.
On the fandom side of things I've started reading fics, because of course I have, Don't worry I'm trying to read older stuff so I won't be too spoiled (but I've kind of been spoiled for a lot of things just by Holmes fandom osmosis anyways.) I ended up reading a Mystrade fic, and god dammit it, it sold me on the pair. I haven't really fallen for side pairing in while, but I knew it would happen again at some point. Don't get me wrong, I ship Sherlock/John, I ship pretty much every iteration of Holmes/Watson, but that is not where interest is really pointing at the moment. So if you have any good Mystrade recs, especially if they take place after Reichenbach, and deal with the fall out of all that, send them my way please.

Wei WuXian laughed softly to see it. When he turned away from the window, he saw that the beautiful man from earlier was still sitting next to him, watching him with an expression that might, optimistically, be called inquisitive.
“The snow,” Wei WuXian said, gesturing outside. “It looks like champagne bubbles, only going the wrong way.” He laughed again, and rubbed his head. “Have you ever felt drunk, but been pretty sure you weren't drinking? Haha, no, never mind me. I'm just tired.” He rubbed a hand over his face, wanting desperately to sleep.

This hazy grey winter ghost-story-or-is-it? is anchored in Suspicious_Popsicle’s concrete lived-in detail, nailing the experience of looping interminably around just to shelter from the elements, waiting for the next opportunity for a stop or transfer (better hope you have at least a day pass and a sympathetic driver, and that you don’t drowse off again!) And of trudging wearily forward through the hostile frigid weather in sodden Vimes’ Boots! Boots! Boots!
Suffice to say that the idea of rescue by a steadfast, devoted, and ethereally handsome Saint Bernard held a profound appeal.)

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.
The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.
And that's why I'm not addressing anything from the US right now.
The UK Government looks like it would rather concentrate on ANOTHER internal leadership election, though interestingly, this might lead to more public political acknowledgement of the mess that Brexit has made of the country, ten years after the original vote.
Eurovision happened, though I skipped it completely this year but based on our apparent performance, we'd have probably been just as successful had we submitted this
The Eisner Awards, one of comics most notable award lists (named for Will Eisner the legendary artist, cartoonist and writer) is under scrutiny, after it was realised that one of the contenders for Best Anthology, a collection of stories featuring Golden Age Stardust the Super Wizard, features a story created with AI.
Lanterns got a second teaser, this one showing a little more of the ring's powers, and John Stewart asking some perhaps long overdue questions about the Guardians recruitment policy
And My Adventures with Superman" Season 3 got a new trailer, and a release date: 14th June!
The marketing campaign for new LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is gearing up, with reveals of many, MANY characters and skins for them. Like the 17 costumes for Robin, and the 14 costumes for Nightwing, including Discowing!
Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.
